Catering & Hospitality Manager
Land & Wave Ltd, Swanage, Dorset
Full Time Seasonal
£25,000 pro rata
Closing date 31 May
Contract date: Immediate start – End September (flexible start date)
We’d love a Catering, Hospitality or Events expert to captain the ship at our adventure campsite in Swanage, Dorset.
This role does NOT involve cooking!
You’ll act as a superhost for our school trip guests, ensuring every group is fed on time and efficiently. You will manage each group’s mealtimes, meet and greet each group on arrival and ensure the mealtime process (breakfast and dinner) is super-slick.
A big part of the role will be managing the dietary requirements for each group. This means diligently cross-checking our dietary information sheets and working closely with our caterers to ensure every child and teacher receives the right food. You’ll instil the importance of this process throughout your team.
Management Experience
You’ll head up a crew of 5 or 6 campsite assistants, who will be on hand to help serve food, clear away and assist you. You’ll train them to provide meal service with a smile and manage the clear down after each meal service with the efficiency of a Formula 1 pitstop.
We want a warm, friendly face to chat to teachers and group leaders and ensure they’re well looked after during their stay. Taking a load of kids on a school trip can be pretty stressful, so your job is to help keep them zen; take an interest, listen to their feedback about the food and provide that little bit of extra customer service – it really goes a long way.
The joyous part of the job is interacting with all the kids. Chatting to these little legends about the adventures they’ve been up to that day will warm your soul – they’re ace!
Other Duties
You’ll also enjoy being the Willy Wonka of the camp tuckshop – ensuring the kids have enough goodies to buy each evening. You’ll manage stock levels, ordering and staffing the tuckshop Tuesday – Thursday.
Additional duties include stock checking and distributing packed lunches every morning to the group leaders. This includes checking all lunches are present and correct, ensuring special dietaries are accurately labelled.
This role would suit an organised manager, who loves a process and a system. We’re looking for warmth, energy and reliability. There’s no room for lateness in this role, as everything needs to run like clockwork. You need to be really good at working with lots of different people.
A Typical Week
A typical 40-hour week would look something like this (we can be flexible and shorter contracts / less days are available):
Monday 11.00 – 20:00
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 06.45 – 10:45 & 16:45 – 19.45 (time off in the middle of the day)
Fri 06.45 – 16.45
You’ll have time off in the middle of the day for your own adventures, hitting the beach or catching up on life admin. This is mainly a Monday – Friday role, with occasional weekend work.
Please talk to us if you’d prefer a reduced evening-only or morning-only role – we’re willing to be flexible.
Swanage is perfectly located for a bunch of adventure activities: climbing, hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, paddle boarding. You’re welcome to borrow a paddle board anytime.
