Location

The Basic Water Rescuer (BWR) course by Land & Wave Ltd takes place in Dorset, UK, offering hands-on, real-world training in suitable water environments. Our experienced instructors provide expert guidance, ensuring a safe and engaging learning experience.This super-accessible course is based on the South Coast in Swanage, Dorset. Easy access via road or train. We’ll even pick you up from the train station for free. We provide return transport to all training locations as part of the course.

Pre-requisites

Before enrolling in the Basic Water Rescuer (BWR) course, participants must:
✔ Be confident swimmers
✔ Be at least 18 years old
✔ Have a basic level of fitness to complete practical exercises

Course Content

✅ Introduction to Water Rescue – Understanding the principles of water rescue and risk assessment
✅ Hydrology & Water Hazards – Identifying potential dangers in still water environments
Personal & Team Safety – Using PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and maintaining team safety
✅ Rescue Techniques – Learning different water rescue methods, including reach, throw, and wade rescues
Use of Rescue Equipment – Proper handling of throw bags, life jackets, and other essential rescue gear
Casualty Management – Approaching, securing, and assisting casualties in the water
Self-Rescue Skills – Techniques to stay safe if caught in a dangerous situation
Communication & Emergency Procedures – Coordinating rescue efforts and ensuring effective communication
Practical Water-Based Scenarios – Hands-on training in real-world environments

Swiftwater Rescue -04

The Basic Water Rescuer (BWR) course is a certified Rescue 3 Europe training course, providing participants with essential water rescue techniques to ensure safe and effective emergency response. Throughout the course, learners will develop skills in equipment handling, understanding how to properly use key rescue gear, and conducting risk assessments to identify potential water-based hazards. The certification is valid for three years, with recertification options available.
