Why Choose the Pool Lifeguard Qualification?

The Pool Lifeguard course is one of the most widely recognised lifesaving qualifications in the UK and Ireland. It’s regulated by Ofqual and awarded by RLSS UK Qualifications, meaning it meets the highest national standards.

But what really sets it apart for students is that the NPLQ Gen 10 now carries 8 UCAS points. These points can be used towards university applications in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland – an ideal boost for students looking to get ahead in competitive fields.

Whether you’re applying to study Sports Science, Medicine, Physiotherapy, Teaching, or anything else, a Pool Lifeguard qualification shows universities that you’re responsible, committed, and ready for leadership.

What Will You Learn?

The NPLQ Level 3 Award in Pool Lifeguarding (Generation 10) is so much more than just a first aid course. Over six action-packed days, you’ll cover:

  • Water rescue skills
  • CPR and AED training
  • First aid and casualty management
  • Pool supervision techniques
  • Communication and teamwork

It’s a hands-on, practical course designed to challenge and empower young people. You’ll leave with essential life-saving skills that are as valuable in everyday life as they are on the job.

Stand Out to Universities and Employers

Getting your Pool Lifeguard qualification demonstrates more than academic ability – it shows that you have real-world responsibility. It proves you can manage risk, act under pressure, and care for others – all skills that universities and employers value highly.

Many universities are now recognising the value of additional qualifications when making offers. Those extra 8 UCAS points could be the difference between a conditional offer and an unconditional one.

And beyond academia, an NPLQ opens doors to flexible, well-paid work. Whether you want to lifeguard part-time at uni, travel and work at camps abroad, or pursue a career in the leisure industry, the NPLQ gives you options.
