At Land & Wave, both the Outdoor Instructor Training programme and the shorter 7-week Paddlesports Training Course are designed with this in mind. There are very few written tasks. The focus is on face-to-face learning, practical assessments and developing confidence through real-world experience. For many trainees with dyslexia, this approach allows their skills to shine.

Land & Wave Outdoor Instructor Training

The Land & Wave Outdoor Instructor Training programme is a 15-week course based in Dorset. It covers a wide range of activities including climbing, kayaking, paddleboarding, coasteering, bushcraft and more. Trainees spend almost every day outside learning by doing, rather than sitting in a classroom.

The training is designed to build both technical skills and teaching confidence. Because the course is delivered in such a practical way, it is an excellent pathway for neurodivergent people. Seven Week Paddlesports Training Course

Not everyone has the time to commit to 15 weeks, which is why Land & Wave also offers a shorter Paddlesports Training Course. Over seven weeks, trainees gain the Paddle UK (formerly known as British Canoeing) qualifications needed to start work as a paddlesports instructor.

Like the longer course, this training is built around practical, hands-on learning. Trainees spend their time on the water developing skills in kayaking, canoeing and paddle boarding. Assessments focus on your ability to coach and inspire others, not on filling out paperwork.

For neurodivergent learners, this shorter course can be a brilliant first step into the outdoor industry. It provides a clear and structured route into work while still being inclusive and supportive.
