Land & Wave – Lead Instructor Job
Flexible start date – Ideally May or June this year.
We need someone that really loves working in the great outdoors to come and work for us in Swanage and fulfil our Lead Instructor job.
This is a full time role.
Our full time lead instructors start on £25,000. All our full time staff share in company profits as a bonus in addition to their salary – £2,000 over the last 12 months.
We are happy to pay in full for any training that is of benefit to the company.
The Job
Your first 3-6 months will be spent helping us to manage and improve our staff team and activities during a very busy season (we help 250 clients have adventures every day). You’ll hit the ground running; managing a team, coordinating big projects and taking responsibility for key areas that fit your skill sets.
Over the Winter, you will take a lead role working on our 15-week Outdoor Instructor Training course and our two-year BTEC Level 3 in Outdoor Adventure.
Once you’ve been with us a year, we’ll work with you to develop your role; you might choose to stay in an activity-based management role or could choose to gain experience and qualifications in teaching, HR, logistics, communications (etc) alongside your work in the great outdoors.
You’ll work an average of 44 hours over 5 days a week.
You’ll get 28 days holiday per year.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience (please don’t apply unless you have these)
- 5 years of experience working within the outdoor industry
- 2 years of experience managing staff within the outdoor industry
- SPA
- Mountain Leader Summer
- At least one 4 Star Leader Award
- A driving licence
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
(a few of these would be great)
- D1 mini bus license with CPC
- Mountain Instructor Award
- Be a/ help us become a BCU level one/two coach course provider
- Good experience of bushcraft preferably in a training/ development role
- Be a first aid trainer
- Be a life saving trainer
- Lots of coasteering leadership, preferably in a training/ development role
- High level paddle sport qualifications; ideally we’d like you to be able to assess one or more 3 star awards and run FSRT courses
- Teaching or training qualifications

About Us
We’re based in Swanage, Dorset.
Lots of the work we do is within a few miles of our HQ (BH19 1EJ), we also run school residentials and expeditions further afield in the UK and Europe.
We’re opening a base in Tignes in the French Alps – we’re really excited.
We’re looking for a new base in the mountains at the moment – our instructor training courses are going to get even better.
