Our favourites - books, podcasts, films and more

Whilst we’re all spending more time at home it’s the perfect time to start that book you’ve been meaning to read, discover new podcasts and make the most of that Netflix subscription.

Each week we’ll be bringing you our favourite book, podcast, film recommendations, games & more…

Podcasts

Podcasts have quickly become one of the most consumed forms of media and it’s easy to see why.
There’s a podcast for everything these days – whether you’re into sport, gardening, thrillers, cooking, adventure or anything in between.
Now is the perfect time to dive into the world of podcast and find some new favourites.
Naturally our list starts with an adventure podcast…

Looking Sideways – Journalist Matt Barr brings you interviews with adventure sports legends from all over the globe. With over 100 episodes to choose from there’s no danger of running out during these next few weeks. We recommend starting with Land & Wave favourite – Alex Honnold.

Desert Island Discs – An absolute staple in the podcast library and with an even bigger back catalogue to choose from than Looking Sideways the weeks will fly by. We recommend starting with Ian Wright – be warned it’s an emotional rollercoaster but a great insight into the sports legend’s rise to success.

Books

Fiction: Where The Crawdads Sing, Delia Owens – the perfect way to submerse yourself in nature from the comfort of your own home.
Non-Fiction: How To Fail, Elizabeth Day – Journalist Elizabeth Day explores how failures are actually a form of success.
(Top tip – it’s also a great podcast too where she interviews everyone from Fleabag writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge to Kelly Holmes.)

Film / TV
New: Netflix original National Parks Adventure – Gives an unseen view into the backstory of America’s national parks.
Classic: Point Break – If you’ve not seen it, stop what you’re doing and watch it immediately. If you’ve already seen it you’ll know it’s worth the watch again and again.
Mini series: Ross Edgley’s Great British Swim – If you missed Ross’s 2018 mission to swim around the whole parameter of Great Britain then no better time to watch this amazing feat. With 24 episodes it makes the perfect daily viewing.

Games
And finally in true Land & Wave style no recommendation list of ours would be complete without mentioning some competitive games!
Dobble – Already a firm favourite on our office lunch breaks, it is our first port of call now we’re at home. 5 games in 1 means no danger of running out of fun anytime soon.
Monopoly Deal – Don’t worry it’s not the family ruining classic we all know to love / hate. It’s a quicker, faster, newer and to be honest more fun version of the much loved childhood game. It’s a card game where you can steal properties, double rent payments and much more.

More to come..

We could easily carry on but we’re going to save our ideas for the next edition.

All recommendations welcome, if you have any ideas then please submit them to: marketing@landandwave.co.uk

See you next week for more favourites.

Keep up your #AdventureSpirit people.
