Business Support Job – 5 Brilliant Reasons to Apply, Swanage, Dorset

Are you looking for a rewarding business support role on the Dorset coast? Land & Wave is hiring a Business Support Coordinator to join our team in Swanage this October – it offers loads of variety in a warm and friendly team.

We’re an outdoor adventure company delivering high-energy experiences for schools, corporate groups, and stag and hen parties across the UK. Our Swanage office is the engine room that keeps it all running, and we need a brilliant all-rounder to help us do that year-round.

Business Support

Here are 5 reasons this business support role could be the right move for you.

1. A Permanent Business Support Role with Real Variety

This isn’t a narrow desk job. As our Business Support Coordinator, you’ll move across finance, administration, and operations – and the work genuinely changes with the seasons.

From October to March, the pace is steadier. You’ll be working on finance processes, keeping admin systems running smoothly, and getting to grips with the operational planning that underpins a busy activity season. Think staffing coordination, logistics support, and project-based work that lets you get properly stuck in.

From April to September, the energy shifts. Bookings increase, the phone gets busier, and the whole team moves up a gear. Your business support skills will be front and centre – managing correspondence, supporting clients and schools, and helping the operation run smoothly at its most hectic.

It suits someone who thrives on variety and doesn’t mind that no two months look quite the same.

2. We’re Open to a Job Share – and It Actually Works Really Well

We know that not everyone wants or needs a full-time role, and we’ve thought carefully about how this business support position could work as a job share between two people.

Single hire working pattern:

  • October to March: 4 days per week (32 hours)
  • April to September: 5 days per week (40 hours)
  • Salary: £27,040 per annum FTE at £13/hr (paid pro rata to reflect the seasonal hours)

Job share working pattern (two people):

  • October to March: 3 days per week each
  • April to September: full time each
  • Salary: pro rata share of £27,040 FTE

A job share works particularly well here because the winter period naturally suits reduced hours, and by the time April comes around both partners are fully embedded and ready to hit the ground running. No scramble to recruit, no knowledge gap, no slow start at the busiest time of year.

If you’re interested in a job share, you’re welcome to apply individually and we’ll explore whether a partnership can be arranged, or apply as a pair if you already have someone in mind.

5. Swanage is a Pretty Special Place to Work

Our office is based in Swanage on the Jurassic Coast – one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in the UK. This is an office-based role so you’ll need to be able to travel to and from Swanage each day, but if you’re going to commute somewhere, this isn’t a bad destination.

The team is sociable, supportive, and genuinely good fun to be around. We work hard when it’s busy and make the most of where we are when we can. Learn about Our Story.

What We’re Looking For in a Business Support Coordinator

You don’t need to tick every box, but the closer the better. We’re looking for someone with:

  • Solid experience using Xero accounting software
  • Strong administration skills and a well-organised approach
  • A sharp eye for detail – you spot errors before they become problems
  • Excellent customer service – warm, clear, and professional in every interaction
  • The ability to shift pace as the business demands – calm and methodical in winter, quick and responsive in summer
  • A genuine team-player attitude – we’re a small team and everyone plays their part

Experience in an outdoor education, or events setting is useful but not essential. What matters most is that you’re reliable, adaptable, and keen to grow into the role.
