Past, Present & Future – The BTEC – Chris Metcalfe
A lot has happened at Land & Wave in 2016, there were plenty of new faces and we said goodbye to a few old faces. One of those old faces was our youngest full time adventurer, Chris Metcalfe.
We met Chris back in 2013 when he started the Land & Wave BTEC Level 3 Outdoor Adventure & Sport course and began his outdoor instructor journey.
He says he chose the course because –
‘My Motivation to join the course was that I really loved the outdoors and thought that this course would suit me best. I really enjoy going out and doing all the activities like coasteering, kayaking, sailing and rock climbing. I really want to join the marines so I hope this course will give the experience that I need.’
In his time with us he’s completed his BTEC course, Advanced Apprenticeship and gained these qualifications…
- 3* Sea Kayak
- BCU Level 1 Coach
- BCU Level 2 Training
- First Aid
- Basic Expedition Leader
- Powerboat Level 2
- Single Pitch Award Training
- Coasteering Guide
- British Bushcraft Level 1
We’ve also seen him pass his driving test and drive badly into work every day for the next 2 years. He’s led a variety of teams and clients, project managed and generally been an amazing member of the Land & Wave team. When he finished with us in October this year we were sad to see him go.
Chris could always be relied on to make everyone smile with a cheeky comment or two along with his distinctive laugh, great work ethic and cheeky grin.
He’s just officially finished his advanced apprenticeship with us after handing in his last piece of work and we wanted to take this opportunity to say well done to Chris, it’s been a pleasure working with you, we miss you and hope to see you back whenever you can spare the time.
If you’re in Year 11 and love the outdoors then check out our BTEC Level 3 Outdoor Adventure & Sport Course. It’s the adventurous alternative to A-Levels, a chance to gain great qualifications as you study. It’s growing every year, we’ve already accepted lots of students onto the 2017 course. We can’t wait to get back out to Careers Fairs and meet the next generation of outdoor adventure students.
