Becoming a First Aid Instructor is an incredible way to combine practical life-saving skills with the confidence to teach and inspire others. At Land & Wave, we specialise in helping people start that journey.
Our Learn to Teach course is Stage One of the process. The part where you gain the essential qualifications that set you up for success. From there, you’ll move on to Stage Two with an awarding body, where you’ll be mentored, assessed and finally signed off as a fully qualified instructor.
Here’s how it all works and what makes our training different.
What Our Learn to Teach First Aid Course Covers
Our six-day programme combines two nationally recognised qualifications:
In this course, you will learn vital skills in First Aid that can save lives.
- Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET)
- Level 3 First Aid at Work
Together, they form the foundation of your instructor pathway. You’ll learn how to plan and deliver engaging lessons, build confidence in front of a group, and understand how people learn best. Alongside that, you’ll gain advanced knowledge — CPR, incident management, and life-saving interventions.
By the end of the course, you’ll not only know what to teach, but how to teach it.

Stage One: Learning the Skills
Stage One is all about you – developing your teaching ability and your confidence.
You’ll spend time in small, supportive groups led by experienced instructors who’ve taught in schools, outdoor centres and professional training environments. Sessions are hands-on and practical, mixing classroom discussion with realistic first aid scenarios.
This stage gives you:
- The teaching qualification needed to progress in instructor training.
- The first aid knowledge to deliver credible, effective sessions.
- The confidence to stand in front of a group and communicate clearly.
When you complete Stage One, you’ll be fully qualified to continue your journey with an awarding body such as RLSS UK, moving into the mentoring phase.
Stage Two: Mentoring, Membership and Sign-Off
Stage Two takes the skills and qualifications you’ve gained with Land & Wave and applies them in real-world teaching environments. Here’s what it involves:
- Membership with an Awarding Body
After your course, you’ll apply to an awarding body (for example, RLSS UK). Membership gives you access to official training resources, assessment frameworks and support networks. - Mentoring from Trainer Assessors (TAs)
You’ll then work alongside experienced instructors, observing, assisting and delivering under supervision. It’s a chance to put your learning into practice while being guided by professionals. - Final Sign-Off
Once your mentor is satisfied with your progress, you’ll be officially signed off as a Qualified First Aid Instructor – ready to deliver accredited training independently.
