Managing a team of brilliant instructors and a solid equipment budget – you’ll be responsible for delivering and developing rescue training at Land & Wave, for both our staff and clients.
Our instructors are intelligent, independent minded people – you’ll need to have empathy and be good at both communication and kindness to manage them effectively.
Attention to detail is really important, we need someone that can see where there’s room for improvement and create positive change quickly.
If you’re positive, creative, intelligent and good at problem solving then we’re happy for you to have full autonomy in this role.
We’d love a pragmatic approach to identifying what we’re not good at and the intelligence and ability to do something about it.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- 3+ year’s management experience within the Rescue, Rescue Training or Adventure Sector
- Swiftwater and Flood Rescue Technician Instructor – or be on a clear pathway to get that qualification.
- Very competent using IT and communications equipment, systems and software
- Experience of recruitment and performance management
- You’ll need to be excellent with people and be very good at empathy and kindness
- Intelligence, imagination, energy and flare
This stuff would be useful (but it’s not essential)
- Rescue 3 – Rope Rescue Technician Instructor – or be on that pathway.
- Outdoor qualifications – Mountain Leader, RCI, Paddle Sport Leader
- D1 minibus license
- A degree (or vocational equivalent) in an interesting and appropriate subject
The Rescue Manager role
As Rescue Manager we’ll pay you £32,000 + profit share bonus.
This is a senior management role. You’ll report to the Directors and help manage a team of Lead Instructors.
You’ll be based at our HQ in Swanage, Dorset.
You’ll be active in delivering Rescue 3 courses, training staff and developing the courses and qualifications that Land & Wave offers. Always moving forwards.
You’ll be the primary contact for many of our Rescue Training clients, the face of the company, the person in the know.
We’d LOVE it if you brought a bunch of Rescue Training contacts and clients with you.
Land & Wave
Land & Wave is 15 years old, during the Summer we provide school trips that run Monday – Friday.
At weekends we’re busy with coasteering, bushcraft and paddle-sports for groups of adults.
During the school holidays we provide DofE Gold Residentials, Kids Adventure Clubs and Activity Days.
We’re very busy with DofE Expeditions March – October.
During the Winter we train Outdoor Instructors.
The core of our Rescue Training will take place from October – April inclusive
We have a full time staff team of 16 people. We employ around 30 extra seasonal staff between March and November.
