Our Open Days are Friendly, Fun and FREE.
We understand that committing to anything is a tough decision; you really need to know what you’re getting in too. Our FREE open days are the best way to get a feel for the Outdoor Instructor Training program: experience the activities, meet fellow candidates and get to know the people behind Land & Wave.
We know taking the leap into anything new can be scary. We also know that you’re potentially sat there thinking ‘Why should I travel all the way to Dorset when I can make a phone call?’ or ‘Is it ACTUALLY worth it?’ Well, here are our top 5 reasons you should make that trip to visit us in sunny Dorset and get first hand experience of making adventure your 9-5.
1. Confirm your options
Attending an Open Day gives you a chance to quash any doubts you might have and answer any pressing questions. Imagine a university open day: ‘Is the course right for you ? Do you like the area? What is the accommodation like?’ – but with Coasteering. You might be considering outdoor instructor training as an alternative to uni, or you might be looking at similar courses around the UK – open days provide a broad scope of information to allow you to make the best decision for you!
2. Tour the local area
Land & Wave is based on the South Coast of England, in Dorset. We’ve had Outdoor Instructor Training candidates come from all over the UK. For some, coming to Dorset is a small jump from home, whilst for others it is a LEAP. You need to make sure this is the right place for you. Our Open Days show you the local area, the iconic locations we have the privilege of working in as well as the local towns you would be calling home.
You can explore our idyllic Dorset coastline by foot or by sea, find out about our Old Harry rocks Kayak tours here.
3. Find out what you didn’t know before
You can do as much research through the internet as you like before making a decision like this- but you wont know everything. Attending an open day allows you to ask all the questions; it may even shed light on important aspects you may not have thought about. Pick the brains of the people who’ve been in your shoes. Speak to previous Outdoor Instructor Graduates and find out first hand what they thought of the experience. The good, the bad and the awesome adventures!
Not sure what questions to ask? Here’s a list of the best questions to ask at open days! (Although it says university open days the questions are still incredibly relevant to our course)
4. Introduce yourself
15 weeks is a significant amount of time. It is important that you like us and we like you. Coming to an open day allows you to meet all the awesome people involved in making the training program as well as your future peers. For 15 weeks you’ll be living, training, eating and socialising with these people- you’ll want to be on the same wavelength.
5. Have an Awesome FREE day of adventure
If none of the above has persuaded you that coming to an Open Day is a fantastic idea, how does a FREE adventure day sound? We want you to see how much fun your training is going to be, and your outdoor instructor career after that. Meet our team at our Swanage HQ for a meet and greet, followed by coasteering at the iconic Dancing Ledge. End the day with fish and chips (or ice cream) at the beach. If that doesn’t sound like the best Open Day ever, I don’t know what does.
What can I do now?
