Adventure Manager | £30,000 + Bonus

We're looking for management Jedi who understands the Adventure industry and it's unique challenges and opportunities. We'd love someone with a track record of getting the best from a team of independent minded, intelligent and experienced people.

We’re looking for an Adventure Manager that can help make us better at what we do

This is what is important to us…

The long term management of a staff team full of intelligent, independent minded, enthusiastic people.

Attention to detail – seeing things that aren’t good enough and making rapid improvements.

A pragmatic and objective approach to identifying what we’re not good at and the intelligence and ability to create structural and cultural change to do something about it.

Honesty, loyalty, hard work, compassion.

Essential qualifications and experience

At least 5 years management experience within the outdoor and adventure sector (or something really similar).

Varied professional experience (companies/ organisations/ roles).

High levels of competence using IT and communications equipment, systems and software.

Experience of recruitment and performance management.

You’ll need to be excellent with people and be very good at empathy and kindness.

Management ability, energy and flare is what’s most important.

This stuff would be useful (but it’s not essential)

One or some, high level, outdoor qualifications

A D1 mini bus license

A degree (or higher) in an interesting and appropriate subject

0N8A7905

It’s probably not worth applying if…

Most of your previous professional experience has been in slow moving, bureaucratic institutions.

You’ve had to leave previous roles because of an inability to form positive relationships.

You can’t manage your own time and energy, we need someone that can work really hard but still manage to switch off and take holiday when they should do.

You think that maths is a foreign language.

You shy away from ‘awkward’ conversations, hate public speaking and don’t have the confidence to challenge people when they’re being a dick (management included).

The role

As an Adventure Manager we’ll pay you £30,000 + profit share bonus (£3500 last year).

This is a senior management role. You’ll report to the Directors and help manage a team of Lead Instructors.

You’ll be based in Swanage and South Dorset most of the time; we also operate in Dartmoor, South Wales, Snowdonia and the Alps.

You’ll spend some of your time out in the landscape; training staff, working with clients and improving what we do.

You’ll spend some of your time at HQ; programming, staffing and developing systems.
