This month, we teamed up with @Ospreyeurope to help them plan an amazing adventure experience for the @wegooutsidetoo community - we couldn’t wait to show them what Dorset had to offer.
The group, @wegooutsidetoo , was set up by father, Marlon Patrice.
Marlon tragically lost his son to knife crime in 2020. He turned to nature to help him grieve and recognised how his outdoor experiences helped soothe him. He founded @wegooutsidetoo to give young black inner-city kids an opportunity to access the outdoors and experience the same sense of freedom and peace that helped him through his toughest moments.
Now WGOT has an online following of over 3300 people and an active community of like-minded individuals who appreciate stepping away from the bustle of inner city life, visiting green spaces and enjoying mentally uplifting shared experiences in the great outdoors.
Marlon’s mission is to help the black community to access open spaces easily. Black people in England are nearly four times as likely as white people to have no outdoor space, so the WGOT community is an incredible movement, which makes a huge difference.
Following a blisteringly hot journey from Birmingham, the WGOT and Osprey Europe crew immediately cooled off in the sea and found their balance stand-up paddleboarding (SUP).
Our rural campsite was the perfect base to unpack, kick back and relax before heading off for an evening walk to our atmospheric woodland. The group’s friction fire lighting skills were rewarded with plenty of marshmallow toasting.
After a sunset walk back to camp across the glorious Corfe Common, it was time for a campfire and chill time, before spending a night under canvas in beautiful bell tents.
In the final stretch of our round-the-clock adventure, the group hiked to Chapman’s Pool in Purbeck for a wild swim. Some even tested the cleansing properties of the clay cliffs and treated themselves to a face and body mask!
Dorset did its thing and was the perfect, stunning backdrop to this adventurous weekend. A big thank you to Marlon and the @wegooutsidetoo community and @ospreyeuroupe for your amazing energy - what an epic weekend!
