Gear Review | Corrymoor Socks | Land & Wave

We’re very fortunate to have a great relationship with the team over at  Corrymoor Socks in the Blackdown Hills of East Devon. Corrymoor farm 128 acres of land – rearing organic beef and Angora goats.

Our partnership starts with those Angora goats. Land & Wave is busy training Outdoor Instructors through the Winter and having cold feet makes us miserable…

Corrymoor make incredible socks from mohair, spun from the hair of Angorra goats. Mohair is incredible stuff; it’s durable, resilient and has excellent insulating properties.

To make amazing socks the mohair is washed, combed, then spun into yarn, before being knitted on traditional machinery.

Corrymoor socks stand out because of their colour range, Mohair ‘takes up’ dyes loads better than wool so vibrant colours with great lustre are possible.

Tried and Tested by the Land & Wave Crew

This winter Corrymoor provided us with a bundle of ‘Companion‘ socks for our Instructors and Outdoor Instructor Trainees. Being outdoorsy folk, we need warm, reliable clothing to keep us safe and warm in the great outdoors.

We definitely put the socks to the test, this Winter has been WET and cold. We’ve been in the woods, in sea kayaks, canoeing down rivers and stomping up mountains.

Here’s just a few reviews from our Instructors and our trainees.

“I spend all year round on the water and always struggle to keep my feet warm. These past two weeks I have been wearing my new pink Corrymoor socks and have not suffered with cold feet nor had to think about the dreaded experience of taking my dry-suit off to find my toes have fallen off! I will be adding a few more pairs to my Collection. Thanks for the Cosy Toes.” – Lyndsay McPhee

“These Companion socks are so cool. Haven’t let me down in the cold and damp yet & I don’t expect them to. Very comfortable even after 6/7 hours spent on your feet.” – Brian Kavanagh

The praise continues…

“Cold feet can put a downer on a day outdoors. I’ve been wearing my companion socks under my dry-suit all Winter and my feet have been warm and cosy. I’m already eyeing up my next selection.” – Nathaniel Reeks

“Bangin’ socks! Thank you to your beautiful goats and all the team. Wearing mine under my dry-suit whilst paddling in white water at the moment and they are keeping me toasty” – Kat Jones

“Love them, really warm and fluffy and stand out with pink marl. It’s also great to know I’m supporting local businesses.” – Jack Lesueur

Go buy some Corrymoor socks!

Corrymoor Companions have kept feet warm through winter months, both on land and in water (worn under our drysuits). We’ve found that the natural wicking properties of the mohair means they can keep you warm when your feet are a little damp.

We’ve also found you can get away with wearing them for quite a long time before needing to wash them (important when your many miles from a washing machine). Head over to their website and check them out for yourself, the hardest bit is choosing a colour…
